This event was super fun! Having done multiple 5k's downtown it was nice to see a slightly different race path and the starting and finish lines were not right on Fremont for a change. The 2013 run didn't have the turnout I would expect, probably only about 1,000 people, but it was still a great event for an ever better cause - Toys for Tots. Also this race didn't start until 11 am which made for a relaxing morning.
I was able to snag discount tickets through Yelp, got extra money off for joining a team (Yelp again), and then their website offered another $10 off for posting my registration to Facebook. BARGAIN! we picked up some ugly sweaters off of eBay and we were set!
Early packet pickup was easy, only few miles from our house at Sports Authority. We got temporary tattoo mustaches and super cute Ugly Sweater Run beanies! Every racer got 2 free Sam Adams beers or Hard Apple Cider at the race finish. There were prizes for the best sweater, the ugliest sweater and the best mustache. There were tons of photo ops: banners with fireplaces, Sam Adams cardboard cut outs, inflatable Santa and trees and even an inflatable snow globe you could climb inside. With food trucks on site, they really went out of their way to make this small event a real party!
I can't wait to do this race again next year.
