When my boyfriend and I have the "where do you want to eat" conversation on weekends it usually always ends up being Asian and AYCE sushi and Korean BBQ usually among the choices. A place that does both is going to get at least one visit from us. Biwon was recommended to us from a Lyft driver so we checked it out.
It's right off the 15 on Sahara in a large building that's divided into a BBQ area, sushi area, and another offshoot dining room. We chose the BBQ area and it was decently occupied at around 6pm. We chose to do the BBQ and sushi AYCE for $28 or so (it's $7 to add on the sushi option). We ordered the bulgogi, brisket, and marinated short ribs from the BBQ side and the Boo roll, 1/2 of the Something Wrong roll and the Easy roll for sushi. Right off the bat they bring you 6 ban chan, ranging from fish cakes to pickled vegetables to noodles. They also bring a giant salad to share. I actually liked the salad a lot, the dressing was peanut-y and the lettuce was thick and hearty.
We started off grilling the brisket, which is super thin and doesn't take long to cook. It's seasoned with salt and pepper but it was probably the blandest meat I've ever tasted. Luckily they give you a sauce to dip it in but that wasn't very memorable either. Unfortunately since it was just the two of us we had a lot of brisket to eat. They probably give you 20 pieces. We found that the crispier we cooked them the easiest it was to consume. Next up was the bulgogi which was probably the best thing we had. The marinade makes all the difference. The kalbi was two very thick pieces that you can cut up with scissors when it's done. It was somewhat fatty but decent if not a little too thick.
I definitely would not recommend adding on the sushi option. If you want AYCE sushi do it somewhere else. The Something Wrong Roll had shrimp tempura and crab yet it was the fishiest roll I've ever eaten. The Boo was better but their cucumber outer wrapping is thin and falls apart easily. The Easy roll was the best one once we scraped off all the mayonnaise. These aren't top quality sushi rolls and it's nice to have option if you want to pig out but I would have been fine with just the meats and appetizers from the BBQ side, especially when they already give you a side of rice.
Overall it's a good concept but not executed well. It's not the best AYCE sushi I've ever had and it's not the best Korean BBQ I've ever had. I've actually stopped going to AYCE Korean BBQ places in favor of the a la carte, higher quality places. Fortunately we didn't over do it here but you easily could and I would only recommend coming here with a large group that is looking for variety at a cheap price.
