| - There is a reason this bakery is on the list of Pittsburgh places to try. My daughter and I stopped here for dessert items last Saturday afternoon after eating lunch in Highland Park. We joined the back of the line curving and stretching to just inside the door. We did not hold our place as the end of the line for long. Granted, the sales area of this business is a small space so more than a couple customers requires a line-up. We could not get close to look at all the choices before reaching the counter, but we got some tips and descriptions from the two young men in front of us who were 'regulars'. One young man said he had been there every day the previous summer. So we began to form a list for when it came our turn to order. We ordered the choquettes, (small sugar-covered nuggets described by the one young man as donut holes made from croissant dough). Then we selected a chausson aux pommes. My daughter liked this a lot, but I prefer slices or chunks of apples rather than a sauce. Finally it was our turn to select from all those beautiful, mouth-watering temptations in the display case. We chose the charlotte aux framboises, the super-sized macaron framboise, the scrumptious tropezienne, and a couple of equally delicious lemon macarons. What was the favorite? It is impossible to choose just one item, and there are many more things to sample before deciding on favorites. We returned this Saturday for repeat purchases. As we got out of the car, I could see the line was out on the street this time. It was worth the wait for the macaron framboise , tropezienne, and this time we added the tarte aux citron, abricotine, brioche aux agrumes, tarte tatin and a small baguette. We plan to keep going back until we have tried everything. Then perhaps we can narrow down our favorites, walk right in and order that one favorite. Or maybe we will always walk out with a box filled with several selections .
