Service was very good but that's where the goodness stopped.
It was late so we opted to choose a few selections off of the Chinese small plates menu, although they do serve non-Chinese entrees as well. I thought since it was a Chinese cafe, the Chinese food would possibly be better. Nope.
We started with the Hot & Sour soup. It was decent. A little thicker than I'm used to. It was much heavier than a broth consistency. Otherwise, it was pretty traditional. It actually was a tiny bit hot which I really appreciate. The flavor was okay.
Next, the pork steamed buns, which took 20+ minutes to prepare per the server, were undercooked and doughy. This is one of my favorite dishes and I do know how it is when cooked correctly. They barely had any pork in them at all either. It was more of a very thin smear of pork paste when I opened it to see if it actually had any pork in it after not having any in my first 2-3 bites. The flavor was also missing.
We also tried the pan fried dumplings. It was a combo of pork and shrimp. This did not work. At all. Weirdest fishy flavor ever.
Next we ordered the veggie spring rolls because we were 0-2. They were okay. Traditional but again, no flavor.
I would certainly skip this place unless it's after hours and it is the only restaurant in the SLS/W that is open 24/7. But I would suggest staying away from the Chinese menu. I saw a pasta dish come out that looked good.
In all fairness though, this cafe does the room service for the W and breakfast the following morning was good. I had the breakfast burrito and I would order it again. So I give 3 stars for that instead of the 2 stars originally planned.
