  • This is not the world's largest, most impressive or best aquarium, but for what it is, its actually quite nice. There is a great selection of fish and sharks and if staying in Vegas and you want to do something a little out of the norm, I'd recommend visiting the Shark Reef. I'll begin with the journey to getting there. Firstly, we happened to walk all the way from Planet Hollywood to Excalibur and then took the tram over to Mandalay Bay. Once we arrived in the proper hotel, we then had to walk what seemed like forever to get to the aquarium. It is located pretty far away from the main lobby and casino, so keep this in mind if walking with small children or people with special needs that limit mobility. We inquired about discounts, but there are none given unless you are a Nevada resident (which is fairly typical - I guess I should have called my long lost cousin). We arrived on an early Thursday afternoon and there were no crowds or rowdy gangs of children to be found. We took our time and admired each of the exhibits and per the advice of other reviewers, we paced ourselves and took many photos. One of our two favorite exhibits were the octopus. It comes to the glass occasionally which makes for an awesome photon opportunity. Secondly, we enjoyed the jelly fish. They were so beautiful to admire. Admirable mention goes to the Sharks, there are quite a few and it is really fun see them in action. I probably wouldn't come here again unless with kids because it's not the type of thing that you need to see more than once with a city as vibrant as Las Vegas. We probably spent a good few hours sightseeing and taking our time getting to Mandalay Bay on foot, and then another hour and a half inside of the aquarium. This ended up being a half of a day activity, so do plan accordingly depending on how you travel and the distance you're coming.
