| - Luchita's offers very good Mexican food at reasonable prices -- and for Cleveland, that's saying a lot! (I was spoiled by living in Chicago for 35 years prior, where there are plenty of authentic, gourmet Mexican restaurants.) The ambiance is comfortable and real -- does TGIFriday's HAVE to set the standard for restaurant decor in Cleveland? And the service was warm, attentive and homey, which added to the enjoyable dining experience we had at Luchita's.
The empanadas were delicious -- light and NON-greasy, with flavorful fillings. Green salad ordinary/undistinguished. Flautas crispy and good, not great. Sopa Azteca was tasty, a step up from ordinary, but not outstanding. I had Pozole de Puerco Estilo Michoacano as an entree and it did not disappoint -- a more authentic dish with an excellent array of flavors, also a very generous portion. My friend had Filete al Chipotle and gave it a B+: meat a bit tough, but ancho pepper salsa made up for that. We were stuffed but shared an average flan for dessert, and it was plenty large enough to serve two.
Very glad to say I could wash everything down with my all-time favorite brew, Negra Modelo -- yummmm!
Note: we learned that all four Luchita's locations are independently owned and operated (by various family members), so food is not necessarily identical or equally good everywhere. The 117th St. location is alleged to be the most direct descendent of the founder of Luchita's. Try it -- you're unlikely to be disappointed (speaking of which, we had previously gone to the nearby Mi Pueblo and had a universally BAD meal).
