| - This is the one hotel in uptown Charlotte that I don't mind coming back to, since it meets my expectations nearly every time. Since arriving here for the first time for a convention in 08', followed b subsequent conventions and business meetings, the Westin Charlotte has been a welcoming accommodation that continues to leave an impression after each visit.
The first impression easily was the Heavenly beds. I've never slept in a better bed in a hotel prior to this visit, nor since. This bed set the benchmark so high with me that I purchased a comparable model a couple of years later at a pretty penny. The rooms within the Westin Charlotte are standard Westin: a littler smaller than expected, with the bed dominating a good portion of the space. The standard amenities of the pool area, gym and so forth met expectations. The front desk staff is very, very good, in addition to the banquet staff when it comes to accommodating colleagues that are in for a convention.
The bar area across the floor from the front desk is one of my favorite places to network with professionals as much as I do drink. Known as "The Lobby Bar", the area is set up strictly as one to rendezvous with business associates and friends during events primarily after 5 PM. The menu is moderately reasonable for beer drafts, yet a little pricier for hors d' oeuvres and cocktails. If you can get your company to approve drinks and appetizers under T&E, it is highly advised.
Parking is so-so. While the convenience to park within the underground lot is appreciated, I really think that it should be marked better with regard to where the elevator is in relation to the section of where your car is. It took me nearly 20 minutes to find my car at one point!
Altogether, the Westin Charlotte can be a place to really enjoy. A little pricey, yet worth it if you prefer a downtown (they call it uptown in Charlotte) location while either traveling or on business.
