I stopped in Hidden Track Bottle Shop for one of their twice weekly wine tastings - today's included great Vegan wines including a selection from Wilcox AZ.
Because it was a chilly day - by AZ standards - I was craving some good 'ol comfort food like my Momma used to make, so I stopped by the cafe. Their menu items including cheese/cheese and meat plates that you create, flat bread pizzas, grilled cheese sandwiches and soups. I opted for the grilled cheese sandwich. My momma would make these with Wonder Bread and individuality wrapped "processed cheese food". These ain't your mommas's sandwiches!
Rich and creamy gruyere cheese melted over fresh Noble bread is just the beginning. One of their sandwich also come with chorizo imported from Spain - don't get me started on the chorizo! It's available to purchase, and you'll regret not picking up some to take home. But I digress, back to that grilled cheese sandwich. I asked if I could add sliced Granny Smith apple, and Danielle suggest pear instead. When it came to my table I was
immediately slapped in the face with the aroma of that delicious melting cheese, the smokiness of the chorizo and the nuttiness of the freshly toasted bread. I took a bite and the pear paired perfectly (say that 10 time fast!) with all the other flavors adding a hint of sweet that brought the sandwich to the Gourmet level
This simple comfort food in Danielle's hand is elevated to new heights and would even make your momma proud!
