  • With a new surcharge on honey, their pricing has skyrocketed. Victor's is on my street, so I've been a regular for a long time. My only quibble (until my most recent visit), has been their pricing: at every other coffee shop in Madison, a cup of coffee (I have my own 16-ounce cup), costs between $1.75 and $1.95. Victor's charges $2.06. No big deal; I won't make a big fuss over 11 cents. But this morning I got a real price shock: I prefer to put a little honey in my coffee rather than sugar, and Victor's has always had--as all decent coffee shops do--a bottle of honey at the creamer station. At my most recent visit it wasn't there, so I asked for it. The barista informed me (and she seemed a bit embarrassed about it), that they are now charging an additional 60 cents for honey. That just seems insane. So my cup of coffee, which costs less than $2.00 at pretty much every other coffee shop in Madison, will now cost $2.66 at Victor's? A teaspoon of honey is worth 60ยข? I'm sad to say they have lost my business. I will pay a little more for convenience and good service, (which, to be fair, they do have), but not that much more. With so many excellent coffee options in my Monroe Street neighborhood, that strikes me as being a very poor business decision.
