  • What a fun discovery downtown! A friend had recommended this as a cool new hipster spot to check out. I went early on first Friday, around 7pm, and was able to find parking right up the street. The metered parking on Main Street is free after 6pm. Casa don Juan is just a few doors down too so I headed to Velveteen after enjoying some Mexican. The selection is great! If you've read my reviews, you know how I feel about good beer and cocktails. My husband had a few different offerings from Big Dog's (they were doing a mini tap-takeover) and I had the new punch for that night (Strawberry Basil Tequila). Speaking of the mini tap-takeover, Big Dog gave them a bunch of pints that they don't intend to continue to use so the Bartender gave my husband and I each one for free! Being pint collectors - you have to enjoy a beer in the glass is was intended to be served in - getting to add to our collection, at no charge, was an awesome perk. The bartender's are attentive and the overall atmosphere and decor and definitely my taste. The cocktail tables are accompanied by large tufted, baroque style chairs and sofas. The music was eclectic and not overwhelming, carrying on conversation without shouting is always nice. One more note, I don't know for sure if it is non-smoking, but it seems like it is. I did not see one person smoking and that is a huge plus for me. I love seeing additions like this one in downtown Vegas!
