  • Again, I have to make a disclaimer that I don't eat steak. However, I had a bite of my mother's steak and WOW! I just might eat steak here! This was my first visit. My mother was in town and as a somewhat late Mother's Day dinner, I took here here. I happened to have made reservations the day prior, and I'm glad I did because there was a sign on the door that night saying the restaurant was working on a reservation-only basis. I'm not sure if this happens a lot, but knowing this, I highly suggest you make a reservation, even if you think it may not be needed. The server asked if we had visited before and when we said this was our first visit, the server gave us some basic history, recommended the most popular sides, and gave the night's special. The ambiance is low lighted with white linens. Looks upscale inside but I certainly felt comfortable dining in less-than-business casual dress. I sat in the club area, in the back by the bar. It was very loud back there. I can't see that area as being intimate or romantic, as this restaurant suggests on their website. Crackers of the saltine, Club, and Melba Toast varieties are complementary at the start of the meal and are served with cheese butter. I ordered the clam chowder and fried flounder with onion rings and rice as sides. The clam chowder was thick and chock full of clams. Unlike many clam chowders I've had in the past, this had zero presence of "sand." In addition, there was a slight smoky flavor from bacon. The flounder was lightly breaded and fried. It was fried to a perfect crispness outside and still flaky and moist on the inside. The tartar sauce, a very simple thing to make, was fantastic!! I also must add that the tartar sauce was not needed since the fish was so flavorful. The onion rings were thick and sweet, but I found the breading to not have much flavor. The rice was just OK. It looked appetizing and was flavorful, but I was off put by the stickiness like it was leftover from the night before. The server was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. I broke my take out box for my onion rings. When I asked for a new box, the server just gave me a fresh order of onion rings. Hands down the best dining experience I have ever had.
