We rented a car for a day just recently when in Las Vegas. We needed a break from the strip so took the 17 mile drive out to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Park. We were there within a half hour from the strip, and stopped at the visitor's center.
There is a lot of hiking you can do, but if you are not into that, there is a 13 mile loop that you can drive through the park on with stops to get out and see the vistas and take photos. We had a good time and think it was worth the short drive.
