| - I don't really know how to feel about the Marilyn Monroe Cafe!
It's a beautiful location which immediately impressed me! If my home was a cafe, I would decorate it the same way - interesting light fixtures, beautiful clean lines and lots of neutral colours - I was immediately impressed and even more so when the mirror TVs in the booths were pointed out to me!
We went to the counter and ordered some danishes and a latte which were all very good and comparable to Starbucks prices (I was definitely expecting a $10 danish), and the service was prompt as well. I was seriously impressed by the disposable cups the latte came in - the lids had a sliding close mechanism! Maybe I've been under a rock, but I am much more used to seeing the Starbucks or Tim Hortons systems of lids.
So, why am I unsure about this place, considering it's beautiful, priced well, and has good food and service? Well, simply because I felt... weird about it. Everyone in there was a certain "type" of person (young, well dressed, super done-up female) - also the whole idea of a Marilyn Monroe inspired cafe was just weird. I especially felt that way after reading excerpts from their website like:
"....creating a space where you could imagine Marilyn sipping her favorite latte and indulging in a luscious danish."
Ugh. I just don't like that.
So I will probably go back again and try and fit in with the "beautiful people" but if I get that weird feeling again, we might be done.
