  • I had to stay in maple for a staff meeting and had a break in between work and the meeting. So I thought I'd check out a local gym (because missing a workout is just not an option) ;) Anytime fitness was nice and close and had a free trial pass, which was better than paying a drop in fee .... I don't think they allow drop-ins here anyways. So, first off the door was locked, as their members only/24 hour policy has some safety precautions in place. No issue, I was let in no problem. The sign in process for the free trial was quick and painless. No spiels about joining immediately to save x amount of money, get the body I've always wanted, blah blah blah. I went to the change room and was surprised to find ... Not much of a room. The change room is literally a big bathroom with a shower to the left (which has a door) and a few steps to the right there is a coat rack that is slightly around the corner so if you're changing, people walking by probably won't see you. It's not a change room. It's a coat rack and a bench. There are lockers in a main area between the two bathroom/fake change room areas. The gym itself is very clean, nice good quality equipment and a decent layout. There is a room that has heavy training ropes, kettle bells, boxes for box jumps, bosu balls, etc. In the front are all of the cardio machines and in the back they have the weights and weight machines. There aren't many weights and they are really awkwardly wide. Even a 20lb weight had such wide sides that I couldn't use it for bicep curls without smashing my hips every time it came down (the only way to avoid it would be not completing the curl). Very uncomfortable. This aspect alone was a huge downside for me. I primarily use free weights so when they're weirdly shaped and generally unavailable because of weight-hogs, it puts quite the damper on a workout. I didn't bother going downstairs, but there is a downstairs area. They also run classes (probably downstairs), including spin. I doubt I'll be back, but a good option if you live in the area and don't rely much on free weights for your workout. I have to admit, the heavy training ropes were a HUGE highlight for me! I haven't seen those at any other gym I've been to. It wasn't too busy at 4, but when I left around 5:30 the place was pretty crowded. Also, parking close is a bit of an issue. I was lucky to snag a spot when someone was leaving.
