A disappointing experience for my child. She was not challenged academically and we had a slew of issues.
I endured my daughter being referred to as brown, being hit, spat on by other children and references of hate. However I chucked it all up to things toddlers do.
The buck stopped when Kids Express filed a report with Dane County stating my daughter was being abused. When I questioned the director of the school about the report. She stated "teachers are mandatory reporters".
My issue with this report is: when the teacher saw the bruise(hyper pigmented dry eczema patch) on my daughter's leg, she questioned her about it. My daughter stated "it was from scratching my leg". The teacher/reporter thought my daughter's explanation did not make sense. The reporter then began to interrogate my 4 yr old, until she got an answer she wanted.
Yes, they should report any observation of suspected child abuse. However it is inappropriate for the teacher/staff to interrogate the child. The questions are to be asked by child protective services.
It is my opinion that these actions were fueled by motives other than my daughter's safety. It is well documented in my daughter's health records at school, she has eczema and is allergic to many foods. I am disturbed by the actions of this preschool. It was my friendly reminder...that despite my socioeconomic status and education, I am not immune.
In addition when I shared my experience with other parents, my daughter was immediately dismissed from the school.
