| - What a lovely place.
It's so good that while we were traveling, we visited this diamond three times. We would have come more often, except they don't open until 4pm.
First of all, they know what they're doing. The ambiance is fabulous. In a sea of sports bars with TVs everywhere, the Citizen is breath of fresh air. No TVs. Dark Wood. Warm uplighting. Lots of conversation. Of all of the places we visited, this one had the most "Northern California" feel to it - some people were there in Tuxedos, some people were there in flip-flops. And everyone was obviously having fun.
Sitting at the bar, we got to know Thomas, the bar manager - who is a great guy, intelligent conversationalist, and passionate about making a perfect cocktail - and it shows. We deeply enjoyed the Salutation on multiple occasions, as well as the World's End, and I will say they make a mean Negroni.
The food was fantastic - the bacon fat heirloom popcorn was out of this world. I can't believe I've never thought of that. Perfectly air popped corn with chopped bacon pieces, dressed lightly in bacon grease danced on my tongue and gave me the mouthgasm I was looking for. We loved the fondue, perfectly made sausage, bread, and asian pears with beer cheese. Aw yes. The burrata was absolutely fantastic and flavorful. We also decided on scallops one night, for which they are well known - GET THEM. I've never had scallops prepared like these.
Service: Excellent
Ambiance: Excellent
Food: Out of this world
Cocktails: Delicious
My only wish is that they opened a little earlier, because I could've spent even more hours enjoying this place! Thank you Citizen for an awesome experience!
