I travel often with a service dog sometimes monthly and I always stay at a Marriott Residence Inn, I am a Marriott member. This one left me a little disheartened. We arrived in Phoenix early after a 12 hour drive from Northern California. We called to see if there was any way we could check in around 4 a.m. (check in was set for 8 a.m.)I figured the room would be sitting empty since that was our check in time, in the past granted it doesn't happen to us often they usually offer a discount rate vs letting the room sit empty for 4 hours better to make something vs nothing at all that is just smart business. We were told it was policy that we had to pay a FULL nights stay for the 4 hours. I refused to do that. I thought it was ridiculous. I asked can I still check in at 8 the desk attendant said yes, my response was ok so you are going to let a room sit empty vs working with me. She said a smug YUP!!! So I slept with my dog in the parking lot til i was able to check in. I told her I Would be sleeping in the parking lot and she was just fine with that. Nice. I checked in right at 8 and went to my room. I requested extra towels there were two of us staying there were 2 towels TOTAL for 2 adults and a service dog. The room was not clean the top of the refrigerator was dusty and just a general lack of detail. Dogs are welcome but I think i was the only one who actually picked up after my animal as there were feces all over the property. We used the gym nightly and it served its purpose but there is no hot tub at this location that I was able to find. I am suppose to go back to AZ in a month and stay again but I think we will be searching for other accommodations primarily due to the treatment at check in. What a shame.
