| - I've been to Monterey Bay multiple times. Four years ago we had terrible service and haven't been back. Fast forward to now. We have decided to have a small wedding ceremony and reception with just family (10 people). We wanted to come into Monterey Bay for our small reception dinner. We didn't need a private room, just a nice table that we were hoping would be near the windows for the best view and a little more private.
I called and spoke with the hostess. We explained that it would be our wedding reception dinner and that we were just interested in ordering from the menu. We asked about seating and if they would accommodate a window seat, or what they would suggest since it is a special night out. The hostess bluntly informed me that they do not reserve window seats and it is first come first serve. If someone before our 6:30 reservation requested that table, they would receive it instead of us. Ok... I can understand that. I can appreciate that policy. But, this is a small wedding dinner. This is a special day for us, even if we aren't planning on spending over 25K for a full blown private reception, we feel that we should get to have a special night. We made the reservation and I continued to search for other options.
Yesterday, we found another restaurant on Mt. Washington that would accommodate us, gave us the information for their pastry chef so that we could have a special dessert created, and was excited to have us as patrons at their restaurant. I called to cancel our Monterey Bay reservations and I explained why we were canceling. The hostess replied with, "OK - we'll cancel your reservation" and hung up. Guess they don't really care that we will never be back, or that they have zero customer service to patrons that were planning on spending up to or more than $2,000 on dinner, drinks, and desserts...
