We discovered this place tonight. Very funky and fun environment. The good news is that the fish and chips and fried clams were first rate and by themselves would justify many happy returns. So, good food, great ambience, and great service.
The clam chowder was very good, but not world class. A little too creamy for my taste and a not enough chunky bits of clam and potato for my taste. Not bad, just had much better and tasty chowder.
Did I mention that the drinks are cheap and the servers were all nice and in tune with our rhythms?
So, the Oysters Rockefeller. I barely know what the say. We are somewhat experts in this cuisine having eaten Rockefeller in dozens of cities and several dozen restaurants. These are the worst Oysters Rockefeller we have eaten in the last thirty years. I can't recall ever eating worse. Almost inedible. If everything else wasn't so darn pleasant and my wife hates scenes, these would have been sent back charged guilty of tasting vile, not just suboptimal, but vile.
Please chef, order the oysters Rockefeller at Durrants and contemplate the difference. Durrants downtown has some very good Rockefeller that bear zero resemblance to whatever it is they think they are serving here.
I don't mean to be unpleasant but someone really has no clue.
