Avoid if possible! No idea what they are doing, not truly smoke-free rooms, don't book SPG Luxury Privileges!
Long version:
Some information about our background: We travel a lot, with properties ranging from a rather basic Hyatt House to 5-star Luxury hotels, so we have a fairly broad experience with all type of hotels brands.
At time of this review, the W had opened a few months ago. Neither the hard product (rooms) nor the soft product (service) are even close to SPG W standards.
Usually we don't write extensive reviews, but the W Las Vegas unfortunately falls exceptionally short of the expectations it sets.
Don't get fooled by the nice room pictures, the actual interior is a lot less glamorous. Wrinkly printed fabric loosely hung on the walls, bathroom with the charm of airport restrooms, cheap light fixtures, switches and outlets, etc.. Also puzzling is the lack of easily accessible outlets to charge phones et al.,
Their roof-top pool was still under construction, which they fail to mention anywhere on their website, but they still charge full resort fees.
The uninspired decor could be overlooked, not the worst part though which are their operations.
We arrived on a Thursday evening around 6 pm for a four-night-stay. The package booked (Starwood Luxury Privileges) included full breakfast for two and upgrade upon arrival depending on availability. Our breakfast vouchers were not ready yet and were promised to be brought up to the room later.
After being upgraded into a marvelous room, we made our way up. The room was spacious, but the interiors looked a lot worse than on the website-pictures and it had significant cleanliness issues.
In addition to dusty tables, black hair and shoe-prints in the bathrooms were very visible on the white industrial tiles.
We pointed this out to the hotel ambassador who had just brought us the breakfast vouchers. He apologized for the obvious uncleanliness and contacted the front desk.
After a new room was assigned, we were helped with the luggage and escorted us to a new room.
This Hotel prides itself on being smoke-free, but the room smelled like someone extensively violated that policy, with cigarette smoke still lingering.
Another new room was assigned to us. No cigarette smoke was detectable there, likely because any cigarette small was covered up by the very intense smell of marihuana.
At this time, we gave up and returned to the lobby, were a very apologetic receptionist took care of us. She and her professional behavior are the only reasons we rate the property two stars instead of one.
We were offered complimentary beverages and snacks, while the receptionist was personally checking out new room options for us.
The room was a Mega Suite. The interior was as cheap as in the other rooms, but at least clean and did not smell.
The other issue we experienced was with breakfast. Part of our package were full breakfast-vouchers for two persons for up to $25 each, including tax and excluding tip.
The main issue here was that the restaurant had no idea how to deal with these vouchers, another symptom of the overarching obvious problem that the Hotel has severe operational and managerial deficiencies.
The first day, our server assured us that the vouchers are actually one dish per person for up to $25, and she charged us extra for sides and espresso-drinks, despite the overall bill being less than $50.
The second day we came prepared, and showed the server the package letter with the detailed information. The server accepted the vouchers and we did not have any extra charges for fruit-sides or espresso-drinks.
On the third day, the server insisted then that the breakfast vouchers were for maximum of $15 per person. We were not able to sort out the situation with the manager, and we did not have the official package information on us.
It took the manager and the W front-desk over 15 minutes to get on the same page. According to them, they also came up with a system going forward that future guests don't experience the same issues as we did.
It would have been nice if they would have not done this on our time while we were waiting for them to get back to us.
Summary:
There are many cheaper and better options in Vegas available. Main upside of the Hotel that it is a bit removed from the craziness of the strip, but still has easy (but expensive) access with mono-rail.
