  • The lockdown room itself was fun. However, the staff, specifically the male attendee, who I assume was the owner, was rude and seemed like he'd rather do anything else than other run his business and talk to his paying customers. I assume he was the owner only because otherwise, I am sure he'd have already been fired. Some of the "not recommended" reviews on yelp also point out how rude the staff was. I'm not sure why Yelp screened those reviews out. However, just keep that in mind that many guests, whether they appear in the 'regular' or 'not recommended' reviews found the staff rude. To begin, our ticket said "arrival time, 4:30; start time, 4:45." When we arrived at 4:25, he told us to wait in the car. When we came back at 4:35, he told us that we were late and that we didn't have time to go to the bathroom. When I pointed out that the start time wasn't until 4:45, and thus certainly we had time to go the bathroom, he stated the "start time was 4:30, not 4:45." If he wanted us there at 4:30, the ticket should've said, "start time, 4:30." And, if he wanted us there at 4:30, he shouldn't have told us to "wait in the car." The rest of our encounters with him were along this same vein. As we soon learned, the purpose of the 15 minutes between 4:30 and 4:45 was for him to "brief" us on the game. Instead of using these 15 minutes wisely, to set the stage and create an excited atmosphere of mystery and intrigue, he spent 15 minutes repeatedly telling us not to touch his precious Dollar Tree props. When the excited tweens in the group asked him some questions, he told them rudely to "not ask any questions until the end." I'm not sure why the kids had to wait to "the end," as he just repeatedly told us not to touch his stuff. Additionally, he used a lot of the 15 minutes telling us "clues," which weren't really clues, but rather meaningless red herrings designed to prevent us from "moving" or "touching" things so that he wouldn't have to spend any time restoring the rooms between groups. He took this so far that he scolded a child for touching a "prop" and basically said that he'd ruined the game for everyone. Of course, as we eventually learned, this "prop" was meaningless and not a clue; and he scolded the kid simply to try and prevent people from touching the props. Keep in mind...moving and touching props is the entire point of the game. Do's for the male owner: Act excited. Take on a role during your explanation of the game. Pretend you're an actor and act like you're some novel character from the scene. If you want to start a 'game' at 4:30, then say the start time is 4:30....don't say the start time is 4:45. Be cool. Go with the flow. Don'ts for the male owner: When your customers arrive, don't tell them to wait in the car. Don't repeatedly tell your customers they don't have time to go to the bathroom. Don't repeatedly tell your customers not to break your stuff. Don't repeatedly tell your customers that the "tomb" they're standing in used to be a convenience store. Don't repeatedly tell your guests they won't really be locked into the rooms because you don't want to be liable if everyone dies in a fire. Don't scold children. Don't be so uptight.
