  • **UPDATE 11/08/17-The doctor apologized for my review below (amended 1-star). After asking, I got a refund for my night guard. They also then sent my charts/records/pics. He said he'll try harder to provide better assurance to his patients.** "Okay, so I'm going to be "blunt" about this review. I haven't gone to this office in quite a while, as I switched to a much more assuring periodontist (Fox Chapel says they also do perio work). Yes, the staff is nice, and the surroundings and technology are very nice, and I think the latter is where your money goes, honestly. First, I never knew that they were taking readings of my recession, as all previous docs were telling me as they were being recorded. I found out that the office was indeed taking readings, after I recently received my charts. I tried to be hopeful at first, even after the condescending remarks that were made to me by Dr. Pawlowicz. Anyway, within my first couple of visits, the doctor actually said, "I'll be honest with you, your mouth looks like you've been smoking for 35 years." The other remark, of which was even more unbelievable (when deciding which part of my mouth to work on first), "Deciding which part of your mouth to work on first, is like asking which child do you pull out of a burning building first." Yes, these were his exact words that I distinctively remember, because I've never heard anything so blatantly rude and ignorant. Gee, my mouth was in bad shape, really? Yeah, that's what I need, to feel ten times worse about my oral health, especially when I choose to go to that person to HELP me, especially when all reviews are so amazing (more on this later). I have been religiously keeping my mouth clean, ever since I found out about my recession, back in '05, and unfortunately, with this office (like previous ones), I was steered in the wrong direction. I was later given a customized night guard (I was told that these stop most of people's recession), which not only didn't do anything except increase the clenching of my mouth, but also cost me around $420 for the guard and an unnecessary cleaning device they gave me (all you need is a glass of water and something like Efferdent...same way to clean orthodontic appliances, of which I had many as a kid). The best part? This is when I found out that I don't grind my teeth, which is what guards are made for. When the doctor conveniently found out I instead clench, and not grind, he honestly didn't have an answer for me...yes, Fox Chapel Advanced Dental Care is so advanced. At least my current perio said that anything worn in the mouth at night, will instincitvely cause your mouth to tighten more (foreign object in the mouth). Yes, guards are more of a PRO when it comes to grinding, so to protect the teeth, but I didn't have this condition. Funny thing, is that my current perio, which I can gladly recommend, said that my recession simply came from orthodontics in the past, thinning my gums, and brushing the gums too hard. Fox Chapel's assumption? My "grinding" was causing the recession, from all of the torque, leading to bone loss. The doctor even went as far as suggesting BONE GRAFTING, because he also proceeded to scare me in those first few visits, by telling me that I've lost a lot of jaw bone (yes, he stressed the word "lot"). I was annoyed by the really expensive guard cost, even if normal (so I've read), and wrote him a thorough letter of disappointment and frustration. His response when I talked to him later? He mentioned the words, "your little lecture". No matter what, a doctor should not badger a patient. His office says that they want to save your teeth, without replacing them. Well, saving them will cost A LOT there. My current perio is thorough, very nice, and couldn't be more assuring. As I said, contact me if you would like his info. I really think that Yelp puts up a ton of bogus/paid reviews, and in FCADC's case, in addition to a number of other "advanced" care offices, this practice seems to be commonplace. These places seem to stress the cosmetic end, instead of just good health care. But hey, good reviews are good reviews, eh? As a matter of fact, my dentist swayed me away from another supposedly advanced doctor with "glowing" reviews. I sense that FCADC, especially, is a bunch of bs for your money. If you want to throw money away, and for an incredibly rude doctor (he's probably nice if your mouth is in decent shape), as well as pseudo to next-to-non-existent feelings of progress, then Fox Chapel Advanced Dental Care is for you."
