| - (Lounge review, not restaurant.) ...The view from here is what's worth going for. Really nothing else. There's a cover here but they walk around the casino handing out free admission comp cards... Look for one of these or ask, it's probably not worth paying.
When we showed up there was quite a line... a much longer line than I probably would've waited in. We didn't wait but went up...
Once upstairs, you start out in the inside lounge portion. It's spacious and there's a pretty busy bar. If you keep walking you'll find the outside, which is really what you go here for... The Rio is a pretty tall building (50something floors) just off the strip, so your view is of the entire strip. Quite amazing scenery. I can't really think of anywhere on the strip that compares. Outside there is a pretty cool stairway that segways between the two levels... You can hang out on the stairway and it's pretty great being up so high in mid-air. The music outside was loud, but there was something great about being outside with music blaring seemingly across the sky. (The music itself... kinda standard top 40 pop.. think Pink).
Drinks are expensive but not outrageous. Somewhere in the $9-12 range for a mixed drink. I would not drink beer here, it will cost you nearly as much as a cocktail so you'll probably feel ripped off. If you order inside, they gave us nicer really heavy plastic glasses, whereas outside it was kinda flimsy ones (though I think that was because they ran out too). The bars were crowded though it wasn't too much of a wait for a drink.
The crowd itself is pretty schmucky... They actually apparently market the Voodoo to attract a Latino crowd now, but there was a mix when we were there. There were an excessive number of guys wearing button down and jeans. The girls were all over the map from trampy to girls night out... The bottom level outside has a DIY stripper pole where girls can go and embarrass themselves.
There's a VIP area behind ropes with sofas and stuff where the kids who think they're rich take their friends. The ropes are guarded by guys that look like the incredible hulk, something like 7' tall and 300 pounds.
When we went the parking garage was packed completely full, so we parked in a side lot and walked a bit. Not too far, but it became a half hour ordeal just parking.
I'd go back for sure, but I wouldn't pay cover to be here and I might even go earlier just to avoid some of the schmuck factor.
