| - We went on a Saturday afternoon at 12:45pm for our 1:00pm session. They tell you to allow for 30 minutes to pay, sign waivers, and get ready, but you really only need about 10 minutes, including the time it takes to get your harness on.
They have a graduated course structure with three or four easy/medium courses and then their most difficult course, for which you need to sign off (on a lined piece of paper, just the date, your name, and signature) to say you know it's difficult and you've done the easy courses.
You do an orientation course and then meet the head guide, who assigns you to a course. Because you can meet the guide as soon as you're done the orientation, the different groups of climbers are staggered and despite the staff telling me it had been their busiest day thus far (June 6, 2015), we never really had to wait for other groups to finish or feel pressured by other groups behind us. We were able to enjoy the courses as though we were the only ones on it, so it was a great private experience.
The courses are somewhat balance-challenging, but not overly demanding. I wouldn't describe it as very difficult or strenuous, and the fact that it's in the trees is great because the sun isn't beating down on you.
After you are done all the courses, you are free to use the remainder of the three hours redoing whichever courses you like. We took a short 10 minute break, two washroom breaks, and paid for the extra "Monarch" zip-line course, and redid two courses. We could have done three, but chose not to because we didn't want to hold up guides right up to closing time. However, we never got the impression that we were rushed or that guides were reluctant to assist. The staff were very friendly.
THINGS TO BRING:
-----------------------------------------------
- Small backpack. You can carry it with you onto the courses and it won't get too in the way. You don't really have to squeeze through anything.
- Water and snacks
- Camera/Phone (preferably in your backpack or in a zipped pocket). You can stop to take pictures on the course at the in-between platforms.
- Gloves. Any gloves will do. It protects your hands from the cables and ropes. The $2 gloves they sell there are regular gardening gloves.
TIPS:
-----------------------------------------------
- Do NOT pay for the extra "Monarch" zip-line course. It lasts about 10 seconds, there isn't a view, and it isn't very exciting. Even at the discounted $5 rate (I think you have to pay more if you only do Monarch and none of the other courses), I just don't feel like it's much of an experience.
- Take your time. You will have the urge to beast through the course and you might finish faster than you anticipated, which is not as fulfilling as you'd think it be. Enjoy the courses at a leisurely pace.
- If you don't feel like taking your time, go ahead and challenge the 6-minute-something guide record on the last, most difficult course, Barn Owl.
