  • My boyfriend and I went to Merchants of Green after a friend recommended it. Our experience was not great. Hearing that this place was as much about the experience as it was a good cup of coffee, we made a special trip here planning to spend some time on a Saturday afternoon. Well, the person working that day seemed more interested in hanging out with her friends than helping us and telling us about the coffee. So not knowing anything about the many choices of coffees, we randomly picked one and each ordered a cup of the "steep and filter". Each cup was $3 for a very basic coffee (about 12 oz I'd guess). All she did was grind it into a jar, let it sit for a minute, and then pour it into a paper filter over the cup. How does that cost $3?! Sure, it was a good coffee, but it was nothing to write home about. Then, we decided to buy a pound of the coffee because it did taste good. At $16 a pound (tax in) it's not cheap but that's about what I'm willing to pay for good coffee. Well, we asked the lady working for a pound of the Guatemalan. She told us to get it ourselves. Okay, so we go over to where the coffee bean dispensers and weigh scale are. At about 3/4 pound the Guatemalan ran out, so we asked her for some more. She said she didn't have any more so top it up with something else. Thinking we had to buy a full pound, we did so. Well, we overfilled the bag a bit and it ended up weighing out at 1.15 lbs. She says "give me $20 and that's fine". Really?!? For $20 I should get 1.25 lbs. I know it's only 0.1 lbs but the principal is that you do not overcharge your customers--especially new ones! AND, that's after we paid $6 for two cups of coffee! All in all not a good experience and won't be going back.
