| - This place is just so awesome.
After 9 hours on the road to Pittsburgh from New York, we were looking for something substantial that wouldn't break the bank. For months my sister had been bragging to me about how awesome it was and how the food was so good so I told her, put your money where your mouth is, and we headed over. (Needless to say, I lost the bet.)
We were seated quickly though it was a bit chaotic. I'm not quite used to the slower service since I'm not from around here but it was decent. I had to send back my cider because it was flat and a little funky from sitting in the cooler too long. But that of course took at least 10 minutes to do and we hadn't even ordered our food yet.
After drinks were settled and everyone was pleased with their selection we went on to the food menu.
For starters:
Glamorgan croquettes: a substantial portion for the $8 price tag. We each had one and took the last go to for my brother-in-law. Crispy on the outside, gooey and cheesy on the inside, paired with the most delicious and tangy mustard sauce. These were a highlight of the meal.
Vindaloo bacon candy on a stick: This was good. Definitely not the best bacon candy I've had, but it was a decent attempt. I don't think it's fair to call it candy because it wasn't sweet at all. It also wasn't crispy. It was just a semi-warm slab of pork belly with some vindaloo spices. Could have been executed better.
Smoked seafood chowder: I'll be frank. This was disgusting. The chowder had no movement to it, because overly floured and the raw flour taste was still present. There was barely any seafood in the chower itself. It was full of undercooked leeks and undercooked potatoes. It was just a mess.
Entrees:
My fiancé had the pork special. Pork loin, sweet potatoes, maple, asparagus. It was delicious and perfectly cooked.
My twin sister ordered the goat cheese stuffed chicken but they were out of the certain chicken they used so they offered her a stuffed chicken breast at a lower cost. It was good but the red lentils underneath the chicken were almost inedible due to the high salt content.
My older sister ordered the mac and cheese with pulled brisket. This was so so so good
The portion was insane. 1lb of pasta and 3/4 of a pound of brisket. Needless to say that between the 4 of us we didn't even make a dent.
As for me, I had the fish and chips. Holy crap. These were, by far, the best I've ever had. The fish was tender, the batter was crisp, the tartar sauce was perfect, and the chips were thick and substantial. It was delicious, though a little greasy.
Dinner for 4, with drinks, appetizers, entrees, and leftovers, was a little over $100. Insane. Service was a little spotty, but it was busy. I'd definitely return. The food was just too good.
