| - The newest Bagel Factory, replacing Kiva Han, enjoys a super convenient location for all CMU/Pitt campus dwellers and a clean, open, and modern atmosphere -- quite a divergence from its predecessor.
The bagels are quite decent, and the bagel sandwiches passable, but the food on the expanded menu is extremely mediocre. It's also overpriced, though it depends on what you get. I ordered scrambled eggs with bacon and a side of soup, and my order came to $13. What?!! Then I discovered that the soup comes with a whole bagel as a side, and the scrambled eggs come with a whole bagel as a side. So I ended up with two unwanted bagels and a way overpriced meal! Just be forewarned -- almost EVERYTHING you order off the menu comes with a side of bagel. I get that it's the bagel factory, but it'd be nice to have easier options of grabbing non-bagel-based bites to eat here as you would at a normal diner or cafe. That said, the bagels were by far the tastiest items you can get here. The scrambled eggs with bacon were super bland and uninspired, and the chicken noodle soup I got was so salty that it was inedible. I took one sip and left the rest.
There were also flies everywhere, landing in our food, landing on us. It made for a truly unpleasant lunching experience.
To its credit, the bagel factory is a convenient place to grab a bagel or a snack (they do have packaged to-go things like fruit cups), and it has a cool atmosphere. However, the tables were a bit jam-packed and crowded together, so I suspect that in colder months when the garage door windows are closed, it will feel rather cramped in here if they don't change the layout. Based on the food alone, I don't think I'll be coming back for lunch here. The food at The Porch and EatUnique, both just a block away, is much, much better.
