  • Yes! I spent a good chunk of last summer waiting for Cathy's Creamery to open. Originally slated to go in on W6th next to Starbucks, their launch date came and went and then nothing. No Cathy's. No delicious ice cream sandwiches. No summer evenings bike riding for desert my scale and the opinion of single women say that I really don't need. And I was sad. But then this evening as I was milling around public square for the convention, people watching and enjoying the atmosphere I stumbled across a sign on W6th, the other side of St Clair that looked a lot like a giant cookie. Could this be? But how have I missed this? I liked their Facebook page, where was the announcement? I get tea from Starbucks here 3 days a week. Was the sign new? Was this even a real sign? This was no mirage. Like Mike Pence silently sneaking into the VP slot somehow Cathy's creamery rose quietly, stealthily even from the ashes and was now the proud owner of a glowing, cookie beacon mounted to their store front calling my name. I still have to finish walking home. What's a few more empty calories? All I have to say is Yum. I went classic, and chose chocolate chip cookies and vanilla ice cream. But you don't have to be boring like me. There are all kinds of different cookies to chose from along with multiple flavors of ice cream. And not just a little ice cream, a mound of ice cream. Enough to make you feel ashamed for trying to fit it in your mouth as if it were a real sandwich. And if that wasn't enough they will roll the edge around in a toping of your choice too (think Oreo crumbles, sprinkles etc). $5. That's it. Five dollars for two chocolate chip cookies that frankly were pretty darn good in their own right along with a heaping portion of ice cream. Can you do ice cream sandwiches every night? Of course you can. Ok, not a wise decision. So visit Cathy's creamery. Visit in moderation, but visit! Grab a lactose pill if you need it (and a few napkins). This is a great addition to the warehouse district and for my sake I hope they get lots of support.
