| - Merriam-Webster defines "mania" as "excessive or unreasonable enthusiasm." From my experience, it's unreasonable to get enthused about this place.
I've actually not taken the opportunity to try Donut Mania until a Yelp friend organized a get-together with other Yelpers at the newest store of this burgeoning chain all the way in North Las Vegas. This location was still in a soft opening phase, with ice cream unavailable and donuts currently not baked here but at one of their other shops, but still freshly made every morning.
We had an evening date, so presumably the freshness wasn't optimal, but I had some great bites anyway. Few items were especially memorable flavor-wise, but they have a huge variety of consistently soft and chewy raised donuts that pay homage to a wide variety of dessert concepts.
Reese's Pieces? Samoa cookies? Yep, they've got creations that honor both.
Maple bacon bars? Oh yes, please. Their contrast of the savory, smoky flavors of bacon with the sweetness of maple is as good as any rendition.
Apple fritters? With a great glaze (perhaps brown sugar) and an unusually light, almost airy interior, these monster-sized treats will make any fans of that dessert happy.
Cronuts? Nope, for trademark reasons, but they have "crodoughs" that are surprisingly satisfying, despite the interior appearing more like a visual homage to a croissant rather than a true replication of the typically chewy dough with discernable layers. This version is soft like a donut, which makes it less special in my book.
Cake donuts? They don't have that many of those, but we tried the vegan cake. It was oddly satisfying, although it has a different mouthfeel than traditional cake donuts, which was somewhat changing in texture.
I could go on and on about the multitude of other raised donuts, including a delicious raspberry jelly-filled, but they're all fairly run-of-the-mill flavors on the same donuts - well, except one that I assume is seasonal, a pumpkin chiffon. Definitely get one if you enjoy the autumnal pumpkin pie flavor in a creamy texture.
(None of my usual notes on pricing because signage wasn't up and we just pooled cash to Christie L. anyway, but that aspect is subjective. Oh, and I will add that I was not witness to other possible transgressions of their employees on other occasions, but do respect my Yelp friends' thoughts and ask that you read their reviews and take heed.)
Overall, nothing is absolutely stunning flavor-wise, and some traditional donuts are underrepresented or entirely omitted from the menu in favor of a variety of delicious raised donuts, but they have a very satisfying and consistently delicious selection of those. My next craving might just land me at a Donut Mania (albeit the Henderson location, which is much closer to me).
