| - When I thought about adding a backyard pool, I was initially put off by some of the horror stories that I heard and read about some Phoenix-area pool contractors. I talked with a friend's pool service tech who had good things to say about Thunderbird Pools & Spas, and there were many positive YELP reviews. The company was prompt to return my initial call and to set an appointment with me, and my overall experience with them was great.
In the initial meeting, Mort designed a pool to fit the size and shape of my backyard space, while preserving the existing patio area as well as a large tree, and shaping the pool to minimize problems with leaf debris. He was very good about keeping my budget in mind, and suggested ways to control the initial construction costs, outlining certain features that could be pre-installed now and then added very easily at a future date.
Using a 3-D computer program, he sat at my dining room table and created a plan, giving me a clear view of the pool, the house, and the rest of my patio area, including trees, shrubs, and lighting. He showed me various alternatives and we went through several "what if...?" scenarios to show how different configurations might look. His computer program was able to create sunrise, daylight, sunset, and evening conditions, so that I could visualize exactly how the entire area would look when the work was completed. He was able to update the program once I selected waterline tiles and the interior color, so I knew exactly what I would be getting.
The folks in the Thunderbird office handled all the paperwork (city permits and HOA approvals), and just 3 weeks after the initial meeting with Mort, there was a pre-construction walk-through with Steve, who was in charge of my job (and he promptly gave me his cell phone number so that I could always reach him directly with any questions/concerns). Excavation then began right on schedule. All through the construction process, everyone was easy to work with, and Cynthia in the office kept me up-to-date on what was happening and when.
Even though it takes about six weeks to build a pool, there were only about 15 actual work days with an expected level of noise--the rest of the time simply involves waiting for various city and HOA inspections to be completed. Robert came out and did the start-up on the scheduled day, training me on all the details involved in the equipment, lighting, waterfall, etc. He also gave me his cell phone number in case there were any problems, and said that he will return next week to check on everything once again.
Less than 6 weeks after construction began, we were enjoying an outdoor meal alongside a great new pool that will be getting a lot of use in the future.
