No eye surgery and no management accountability
I was told by Dr. Buys at the Glaucoma Clinic on January 31/18, that without a trabeculectomy I would be blind within a year. The procedure was scheduled for February 20/18. But on February 16/18, I received a telephone call from the clinic receptionist that I had been cancelled. The excuse? A "nursing shortage".
Patients are being used as pawns in negotiations between nurses' unions and hospital management just as students are used as bargaining pawns in negotiations between teachers' unions and school boards.
I was verbally re-scheduled for April 17/18. This delay means my vision deteriorates and I will now be blind within an even shorter timeframe. I have no confidence any date will be honoured by any ophthalmologist at TWH. They lied to me once and they will do so again.
I had my family physician fill out their Pre-Operative History form which is now useless and must be redone. I paid for a round trip Porter Air flight ($515.56) to Toronto and three nights at a hotel ($664.53) which is over a thousand-dollar loss for me because of the callous and incompetent actions of TWH staff. "Sorry for the inconvenience" they say. What a pile of bull.
