  • I stayed at this Hotel/Resort/Casino for 4 nights as part of a business trip along with a number of my colleagues. Overall the stay was fine, and the impression I got was that the South Point was attempting to be a "value" resort like the ones on the strip, but for a much lower room rate, and slightly lower amenities. Here are some specifics I noticed. Positives: * Very reasonable rates for a LV Strip style mega-casino/hotel. My room averaged $100/night over 4 nights. * Like the Strip hotels, there are many entertainment and dining options on-site, and of course a full casino. All three, however, are slightly limited compared to the on-the-Strip mega-hotels. There are bowling lanes and a full movie theater, a live entertainment theater and an equestrian/rodeo/dirt bike venue in the building. Negatives: * The South Point aims to compete with the Strip mega-hotels, but their décor and style are a little bland (which could be refreshing in Vegas). They have no theme, and while everything is clean and modern enough, it lack character, which is what Vegas is famous for. * The South Point is not on the Las Vegas Strip, and is actually further than it seems to be. A free shuttle is provided from the South Point to the Airport. When we stayed last year, there was an infrequent & ineffectual Shuttle to the Strip, but from what I can tell, that service is no longer provided, and that makes this location even more inconvenient than when we were there. The free airport shuttle requires reservations beforehand, and also runs infrequently. Transportation remains the largest downfall for his fine hotel otherwise. * Exorbitant rates for Internet access. I believe it was roughly $12 per day. I was traveling on business and needed access to my email, so I signed up regardless. My company paid, but I felt like I was robbed. I went to the Business Center to see if I could use their printer to print out my boarding pass, and found that I had to pay for a minimum of 1 hour of computer time, plus some amount for each page printed. Unfortunately, I think this is common to many of the hotels on/near the LV Strip - it was at the hotel I stayed on the Strip last year. * While I am sure that watching TV is not a common pastime in Vegas, I find it puzzling that the South Point TV does not offer even all of the basic cable channels, let alone HBO, Showtime, etc. Most people won't care about the TV, I guess, but if it is to be a premiere hotel, they should at least try to match the Red Roof Inn's selection.
