  • Years ago I use to really like this place, but now I'm disappointed and amazed that this restaurant stays in business. Located in the Scottsdale Quarter, Brio should be standing right alongside many of the other good corporate owned restaurants in the area, but it falls behind in both food and service. On a quiet Sunday afternoon the place was not busy. I arrived before my friend and sat at a table in the bar area. I waited nearly 10 minutes before the Bar steward came over to greet me and give me water (in hot Phoenix August). My companion arrived but still it took 15 minutes before our waiter even brought over menus. The waiter seemed preoccupied, but eventually we ordered appetizers and a main course.......but still more waiting with nothing but water on the table...finally the waiter came over with some bread saying that he had been waiting for a fresh batch to be ready (well he could have told us that!) But the bread wasn't even warm just dry and unappealing. Our appetizer Brushetta Sampler finally arrived. There was no consistency or freshness about it, pieces of the Brushetta bread must have been cut from a stale loaf because they were really really hard, and the meat on the other pieces was unedible even though the bread on those was much softer. We kept waiting for our entree to arrive (45 mins) and it wasnt until after we flagged the waiter down that we found out for some reason he had not put in the order! Forgot to put in the order? Its not like it was a swamped busy Friday night! Finally after nearly fainting from starvation our one entree of Angel Hair pasta with Tomatos and Pesto arrived (we split it). After only a few bites we both realized the pasta was barely cooked! I know what Al Dente is and this was not it. If this was suppose to have a Pesto sauce on it it failed miserably, it was dry, unflavorful and frankly I was embarrased for the cook. Seriously? A restaurant of this caliber serving unedible food? Come on were in Scottsdale no less! And the waiter seemed to just disregard that we were there even though there was only one other couple in the bar area. I was trying to be patient, I was trying to give the place the benefit of the doubt....maybe they only had one cook today, maybe they were short staffed?? I kept looking for a reason to like my experience there. By this time we thought OK, lets have dessert and coffee since everything else was unedible and we're still hungry. We ordered the Carmalized Cheesecake with Strawberries. It arrived looking nothing like a normal cheescake slice. Upon sampling it we couldn't figure out if it was a cake or a cheescake. It had a lone Strawberry on it but no sauce. The flavor or lack thereof was indescribable. We didn't finish it. It was also horrible. How can you offer a tasteless cheescake? Eventually the manager came over realizing that there were problems and he tried to make amends but by this point there was no reason to order anything else, we'd spent over 2 hours in the place with each dish beingreally bad. Luckily, he comped most of the meal but I felt bad for him as well. As a manager he should have been aware of food quality, any problems that might be going on in the kitchen, overseeing staff and checking in with customers as they dine.... regardless, there was no excuse for this terrible food and unprofessional service. I'm normally a generous tipper but this waiter missed the mark completely. it gave me and my friend no reason to even want to return. The only highlight of the meal was the company, the water....and the friendly Valet parking attendant! He got a good tip from me.
