| - I visited this Montreal bistro in the dead of winter this past February and I can not understand how I over looked writing a review until now. Bistro's in general tend to prepare all the French classics and LDG is no exception. It was a frightfully cold snowy evening when I entered the restaurant, there was another party of five at a nearby table, I suppose the weather was a factor as it certainly was not the food I can assure you. I ordered the Lamb shank with paprika and Jack Daniels reduction, mashed potatoes, fresh brussel sprouts, carrots, green and red pepper. The lamb was what you would have expected, it was falling off the bone tender, bursting with flavor, enhanced by a subtle, yet perfectly flavorful Jack Daniels reduction. The vegetables were cooked nicely, firm in texture, each of the respective flavors were identifiable; the perfect medley to accompany the lamb shank. I have found over the years dining in Montreal the house wines are more than suitable as was the case here with their house red wine. For dessert I had Crème brûlée which, I must say, was excellent far better than many I've had here in the states and certainly the equal of what I have experienced in Europe. I ended the meal with a Tariquet Armagnac, a very good one which I thoroughly enjoyed as I gazed out the window on that wintery February evening. As I looked out the window, I reflected on what a pleasant experience it was dining at Les Deux Gamins from the service to the food and the traditional bistro atmosphere, one I hope to repeat very soon.
