  • Had dinner here with the BF prior to seeing the Lion King. Of course did a quick survey of Yelp reviews prior to dinner to make sure we weren't walking into a minefield. Actually the prices were quite reasonable, even taking into account being in Vegas...appetizers were $8 to 12, entrees $20 to 35, and desserts (which we didn't have room for) were all around $8. Plus their "prix fixe" deal is pretty good at $39, considering that you aren't limited to certain entree or dessert options as per usual (hence the quotes) but can pick anything off the menu. So pricewise not out of line for any nice big city downtown restaurant. We were brought chips and a selection of salsa verde, a chipotle salsa, and a "regular" hot salsa. The chips were good, freshly made and crunchy and not greasy. The salsa verde might be too acidic for some, but I like vinegar...the chipotle salsa was quite good too. We then split a queso fundido appetizer that was surprisingly large (easily could have been split amongst four). The queso came out bubbling and with a dollop of guac. Suffice to say I would have licked the serving platter if I could have gotten away with it, but I had to settle for using the flour tortilla (also yum) instead. Our entrees (tecate carnitas and cochinita pibil) were also surprisingly large. I can't resist me some good pork, so I was in heaven with the carnitas. The BF's beef was also awesome, the only thing I thought was just ok was the rice, but I have a hard time liking anything but short grain white rice, you know how Asians roll. Everything was full of flavor AND in large portions. The atmosphere is appropriate for the price, and our server was prompt, attentive, and even threw in an intermission tip for while Simba was taking a breather. A good choice for some upscale Mexican prior to a show at Mandalay, or even just in general!
