| - Heartwood Roasters may be in the old Cafe Gasperi location, but Heartwood has an identity all its own. While the layout is still the same, the vibe now has minimalistic, modern decor and has a relaxed vibe. It almost feels too cool for Hudson. If you shut your eyes, you might think you were in a big city. It feels really good when you walk in.
To begin, I'm not a fancy coffee person (I always feel obliged to disclose that). I'm not too into pour-overs or beans I can't pronounce. I tend to stick with tea and mild drinks. But let me tell you-- at Heartwood, I had one of the best drinks I've ever had a coffee shop: the Chocolate Latte. The presentation was beautiful and it had a smooth, rich flavor without being overpowering. I also had the avocado toast, which I would definitely get again if I ever needed a little snack. Be forewarned, their avocado toast has a lot of chili flakes (which doesn't bother me), but if you're not into spicy food, just let them know before they make it.
I really enjoyed sitting here for a bit and relaxing. I would totally come back with my laptop, plug-in, and stay a while. The owners were really awesome and inviting, and care about what they do. I also appreciated that they had appropriate, chill indie-rock music playing (one of my biggest pet peeves is when I'm trying to concentrate in a coffee shop and loud/weird genres of music are playing). I'll be back soon!
