I was so excited to be accepted for this Printmaking event. What an interesting studio! they told us about the history of the study and how it is a non profit business and you can buy memberships and use the space and they use non toxic inks and they have one on one and group classs!
we got to watch a print made from a copper...stencil? terms -im bad with terms. but they squuezed really black ink on a copper thing that they put acid on for specific amounts of time?? (that was all dont before) ok so the ink on the thing and squuzed in with, like a baby squeegie and then they wiped the ink off and then put if through a big press of a design that americans copied off the french and squeezed a big wheel like we were steering an amazing sailing ship and -oh and yes there was a piece of paper in there and the big squueze and a print was made! it was very neat and i was like oh my goodness there is so much craft that i - zero - know nothing about. respect!
then we did screen printing and how did the image get on the screen and how does it have holes?? those were made ahead of time but whoa -more stuff that i am like - what else do i have no idea about. so there were different stations and we would squeeze different inks through the screen at different color stations.
and then there was a station where we put the words on the paper and the words were all in the press - the letters set there with shims and then we would roll the press over it sorta like before.
and there was art! they also had art on display. so it is a really neat space... and i recommend that you try a class from them... you can also sign ul for emails. the space is very neat and i hope you get to go try it out! thank zygote and yelp and lauren for this opportunity.
