  • RECOMMENDED I've already gushed about my love for Station casino hotels in my review of Red Rock Resort so I'm not going to be redundant here. I just want to say that I love their Full Pay Video Poker machines, very good food courts and restaurants, distance from the congested madness of The Strip and proximity to major highways, which facilitates exploration of Vegas, Summerlin and Henderson (or is it "Anthem"....what's with that?......I hate that effin Ayn Rand). Between 7/19 and 7/22, I spent four nights at Green Valley Ranch Resort & Spa. It is conveniently located off I-215, only about a 7 or 8 minute drive from McCarran Airport. If you are inclined toward shopping(I'm not), the beautiful surrounding development, The District, surrounds the resort and contains many high end retail outlets. For getaway day, those renting a car should know that there is a gas station just a minute up the Green Valley Parkway in the immediate vicinity of I-215.Like at most Station properties, there is a food court, multiplex movie theater, multiple restaurants running the gamut from casual to refined, Starbucks, the Grand Cafe (a really nice diner style place which is open 24 hours) and an inexpensive buffet. Green Valley Ranch, like Red Rock, is one of Station's two premier properties.Prior to having stayed here, I'd played here for years. Those who love video poker as I do, should know that the casino has some 100 percent plus pay tables on Deuces Wild, Double Bonus Poker and Double Double Bonus Poker. I love playing in this casino. It is loaded with machines but there is plenty of open space to allow one to get around the casino without stress. One thing I like about Green Valley is its sedate, classy but not over the top, decor. It is much quieter than Red Rock and my sense is that the typical patrons are less rowdy. You can get some peace and quiet here.My room was clean, attractive and spacious. I was pleased that it was the last room down a series of very long corridors so i did not have to listen to drunken jerks coming out of the elevator. A note of caution to management: unlike at cheaper Station hotels like Boulder Station, there is no security guard at the entrance to the rooms on the casino level. It is simply too easy for someone with bad intent to approach an entering guest from the rear as the guest's card opens the room entrance. Station is creating the perfect conditions for a plaintiff's lawyer to make them look penny wise and dollar foolish. With regard to food I enjoyed great meals at Pizza Rock and the Tides Seafood Bar & Grill. I gave those places their own reviews but I must say that you should put the Magherita Pie at Pizza Rock on your bucket list. The restaurant features a Prime Rib Buffet on Saturday evenings for less than 20 bucks if you have a player's card. If you are a carnivore like me, you will be in heaven. My experience was not entirely positive. On one day, housekeeping forgot to clean my room. Also, on the first day of my stay my allegedly "free" basic Internet service kept going off arbitrarily while I was working. A call to customer service corrected this issue to my satisfaction, however. You should also be aware that Green Valley charges a mandatory "resort fee" of nearly thirty bucks a day. This makes your "bargain" room rate look a little less appealing, particularly if you, like me, are not a fan of pools and spas. Despite the foregoing, I would recommend, without any reservations, that you experience a stay at Green Valley Ranch Resort and Spa.
