| - I tried to give this hotel the benefit of the doubt by going to management before writing this review. I'm sure they were glad to have the feedback, but didn't express compassion beyond that. First, the lobby area is cavernous and loud (the swimming pool is in the lobby with the front desk and bar/lounge area). Half of the rooms' windows face this noisy, echoing area. Poor design, but I could have lived with just that. I tried to get a drink at the bar to stave off a stress headache from the kids voices "carrying" from the pool. It wasn't in the cards. The bar is tiny and on a busy Friday evening, the bartender was stretched too thin, taking food orders, bringing food to people and making drinks. I tried twice. I couldn't even get a nod of acknowledgement.
It's nice that they offered hot breakfast on the weekend mornings, but it was also understaffed and depleted. They couldn't manage to keep the buffet complete, something was always missing. We had to wait for potatoes, which didn't really matter, since we were also waiting for forks. We were there early, and it didn't seem to be very crowded, so I don't know why they weren't able to keep up with it. The hotel was full, so they should have been well stocked and had food rolling out. It isn't rocket science.
We had a long day on Saturday and came back around 9 p.m. to our room exactly as we had left it: towels on the bathroom floor, coffee cups, melted ice, unmade beds, etc. Housekeeping hadn't been there. We called the front desk and were told that they would send someone up. At 9:30 no one had yet come so we went down to the front desk and asked again. When we returned at 10 p.m. there was someone in the room making the beds and talking into her walkie talkie in an irritated tone. She was trying to be helpful, but must have had a long hard day herself and smelled like she was looking forward to a shower. I told her that we would be happy to just have fresh towels and coffee and tea for the morning. She brought towels (though she left our used, wet ones on the bathroom floor) and gave me a handful of coffee and tea. I didn't notice until the following morning that the coffee was all decaf, which just made the whole thing seem mean and passive aggressive.
I don't ask a lot from a hotel. This one has trouble with even basic amenities. No one ever offered an explanation as to why we hadn't received housekeeping. I guess they thought they came through in the end. With the annoying, loud design, they have a lot to make up for. It's too bad they don't even try.
