  • When I was studying abroad as a poor exchange student in the UK, Nando's was the go-to place for post-drinking chicken and chips. When Nando's opened at its Bay location, I was ecstatic to relive the taste of drunken shame and peri-peri sauce. We arrived on a rainy Friday evening and had no issues being seated. The menu is a little different at this location, but the Variety Share Platter we ordered was everything I love at Nando's: wings, skewers, and a half chicken. I usually am a huge fan of the wings, but out of the 5 we received, 3 were a tad undercooked. Other than the disappointment of the undercooked wings, the chicken was juicy and the sauces were just as tangy and delicious as I remembered. The drink dispenser is one of the really elaborate fun ones that has over half a million flavours or something. I always mistrusted these dispensers, because I felt like the unpopular flavours are never changed and just sit there in their artificial disgustingness. My mistrust still did not discourage me from trying the gross lime and raspberry flavours, which tasted just as I expected - a mix between burnt plastic and cough syrup. For dessert we ordered the carrot cake because I am a huge suck for it. My ideal carrot cake is plump with raisins and oh so moist. This one was a little crumbly and covered in too much icing, but it was still enjoyable. Overall, it was a reasonably pleasant dinner with too-dim lighting, and I will have absolutely no qualms about coming back for a budget-friendly meal. However, it definitely did taste better when I was young and naive eating Nando's out of a take-away container after five pints too many.
