  • Went from having cable, internet and home phone down to just internet. We thought it a better solution for our entertainment needs. This change would also save us over $100 a month. Well, we called to cancel by pressing the "cancel" option and we're left on hold for 38 minutes. We opted to hang up after that period. We then called again and were left on hold for nearly 30 minutes again. Having decided to hang up yet again, we called a third time to, yet again, be placed on hold for an undetermined amount of time. Being clever, we decided to stay on hold and then call from another phone but his time chose to "add new services". AMAZINGLY, the call was answered within seconds!! SO...having told the excited employee that we are in fact cancelling service and not adding services and my husband was still on hold...we were able to FINALLY get someone to remove our unneeded services. WELL, it doesn't stop there. Of course the cancellation process went smoother than I anticipated, they did ask if I would like to keep my phone number on a "safety line". I declined their offer and we were told we had just our internet. Perfect!! WELL, a few days later, we received a statement in the mail that outlined our new services. What wasn't AT ALL outlined was a $100 "data processing fee". WELL, I gave TDS a call and they answered promptly, surprisingly, to ask about this $100 fee. WELL, the answer that I was told was not even an answer. It was a techn-jargon script of "blah blah blah...fee". I routinely referred to said "fee" as a penalty for downgrading our services. WELL, I continue to get the "blah, blah, blah" answer and finally got the woman to admit it was a penalty. WELL, I didn't have to pay this penalty if I wanted to keep my home number on a "safety line" program. WELL, after taxes this service is just under $10 a month. SO, either way, TDS will get this $100 penalty and almost did so without ANY disclosure. WELL, if there was a better internet provider in my area, I would jump ship and watch that baby burn from a distance. I will continually look for new and capable providers in my area and will jump the moment I am able to. Shame on you TDS for not disclosing such a "fee" and shame on you for not doing good business in your service area.
