Cox new data cap is a sheer money grab. If they want to treat internet like a utility, then those who use minimal internet should be paying less - same as electric and gas.

My big irritation is they are trying to push the gigablast package on me as a cost saving measure as opposed to the exorbitant overage costs (I use my residential internet service heavily working out of my home). The problem is gigablast is NOT offered in my part of town, and no word on when or if it will be. I don't live in the boonies. Would be nice had they made it an actual option, or offer an increased data package, prior to suddenly changing the service I've had for the past 14 years.
I was also offered the option to bring my tv service back to cox, which could (according to the CSR) save me a bundle in the long run. I dropped their cable long ago because it was pricey by comparison. Seems evident they are trying to pinch customers into throwing all in with them, and dumping streaming services. I'm not sure charging more for internet is a way to force people back to your substandard and costly cable service. Alienating customers is terrible business.
Please note, they have not imposed this money making swindle in areas of the country where there is no virtual monopoly for internet. Places with many options have zero cap, and tend to be more densely populated with routine overages. Hands down a money grab against those without options.
