  • This is a fantastic resource! So grateful to whoever put this together. If you are planning on doing any gardening or landscaping stop by and check out their resources. Jointly run Urbana Champaign not-for-profit facility where you can drop off yard debris (clippings, brush, plant cuttings). Costs $3-5 for approx. 2-6 paper bags which they turn into 100% natural mulches and composts that you can purchase. The LRC also sells crushed and milled granite and asphalt. Currently they have vintage Broadway Avenue street pavers that "u-pick" for .50 each. All these things can be purchased in small (residential) or large (commercial) quantities. For a reasonable fee ($25 if in 5 mile radius of LRC) they will deliver it to your home. This is a deal! Otherwise you have to load bags or bins of compost/dirt/rocks into your car. It is a bit disconcerting the first time you go. You drive slowly about a half mile down a winding road. You wait in a "car line" (turn off your engine and enjoy the view) until you get to the big stop sign/front of the line. Then you hop out of your car and check out their display area with small samples of their mulches, soil, granite and so forth. You then decide what and how much you want. You either pay then or go and get what you want and pay for it. (Pro tip: don't wait in line again. Park on side of building.) If you are dropping stuff off. Just tell them what and how much you have. Then drive to one of the massive piles of material and toss your stuff onto the pile. Or load into your car what you want. There are big machines working the piles so be careful and follow all instructions of where to go - to get or drop off your stuff. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. As you leave check out what I can only assume is a water treatment plant. A huge "stick" with a round red topper stirs a giant vat of stuff. Something about it makes me think I am suddenly in Maurice Sendak's book The Night Kitchen.
