| - I've been really unhappy with Desert Schools as of late. Not so much this location or the staff here, but the company as a whole. The staff here has never been anything but pleasant. In fact just yesterday they waived the fee and gave me a free replacement debit card even though all I did was lose it (usually they only do that for fraud cases, according to the teller).
First of all, it takes a week (we're talking at least 5 business days) for my paychecks to clear. I thought it was an issue with my shady former employer (Walmart wouldn't even cash checks from her company), but I've switched jobs and I still have the same problem. A teller I spoke with yesterday (at the PV mall location) was VERY helpful and told me that if I deposit them in person, they can be processed with no hold. That's...good to know, but not always feasible since I work nights and pick up my paycheck at 3 am. I don't even care about holds, all banks do it, but when it's taking over a week for a check to clear, that's just not ok.
Secondly, and this is more a problem with the third party company they use for their credit cards (I'll be leaving a review for them too, you better believe it), their credit card service is absolutely atrocious. I applied for my card in late January/early February and received it in the mail early Feb. Literally just the card, in a plain white envelope, on a plain white piece of paper. No logo, phone number, or website. In fact, I just got in the mail (on May 29th) all the paperwork that I imagine should have come with the card. That's 3 MONTHS. Anyway, due to having zero information on the paperwork that came with the card, I assumed that my bill would be due on the first of March and that they would either mail and/or email it to me. Nope! I heard nothing from them until my bill arrived March 15th or so, when they charged me a $35 late fee for not paying a $5 balance from February. I had a credit card for one month and already my credit was in the toilet because THEY never sent me any way to communicate with them (and also failed to send me my first bill). I would have called, but again, I work nights and they have no 24 hour customer service (I called the number on the card and couldn't get past the automated menu to talk to a rep).
To be perfectly honest, if I didn't already know from experience how much of a pain it can be to close your account and cancel a credit card, I would have switched banks a long time ago. I was with Chase for years with zero issues, and I will eventually be switching back.
