| - A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I discovered Red Star Kombucha while taking a walk during our lunch hour. Ever since that day I have been a huge fan! A coworker of mine brews her own kombucha and introduced me to the fizzy drink a few months back, and having a go-to place that I can walk to from work is extremely convenient.
First off, the idea of a Kombucha growler shop is extremely unique. The icing on the cake for Red Star is the unique list of Kombucha cocktails, though. Last time I was there, I got to talk to Naomi about her creations since she is the one that designed the list. When I think about which one I'd like to try first, it's too tough of a choice to make. The cocktails range from $7-$12 which is fair and standard. You can check out my picture to see descriptions of each if you are curious about them.
There are typically 5 variations of kombucha featured for you to choose from, and the list changes frequently. Right now there is a 32 ounce growler of "Holy Basil" at home waiting to be enjoyed, but some of our past favorites include the cranberry ginger, blueberry oolong, and black cherry flavors. Super refreshing! They'll let you sample anything they have, so if you're not sure what you want it may not be a bad call to try a few flavors first. You can buy growlers at the store or bring your own to knock a couple dollars off the price of a refill.
How I would describe the taste of kombucha to someone trying it for the first time is like a sweeter champagne with hints of vinegar. It sounds bizarre at first, but I'm hooked. The health benefits of kombucha are enough for me to be a fan, but the unique and enjoyable taste is nice, too. I'll have to update my review once I've had a cocktail or after I've found new favorites, but Red Star is deserving in many ways of the five stars I have given it.
