  • My husband and I recently canceled our membership here after trying to put up with the lack of quality of the gym for 4 months. We were paying $85/month together, but even that was far too much for what this place has to offer. First off, the atmosphere is pretty bad. No, I don't go to the gym for the decor, but this is like paying to work out in your uncle's basement. The lighting flickers or goes out; often the bench area is unnecessarily dim. Then the cardio area is lit like an urgent care waiting room. Also, when the main music consists of slow jams by Elton John and Rod Stewart, a pump is pretty much unachievable. Sometimes, the music isn't even on, and the silence is unnerving if you forgot your iPod. Speaking of silence, yeah, it's almost always dead there. Except at 6 am and noon, you'll probably have the place to yourself. This is what earns the gym its one star. However, before the Silver Sneakers class starts, be prepared to have your bench taken when you get up to grab some new weights. Early-arrivers are known to have no gym etiquette. The cleanliness is subpar at best. I've found small roaches near equipment and in the ladies' locker room on several occasions. At times, the hand soap bottle was empty in the bathroom, which is worrisome. Dust seems to pile up in corners. But if you're lucky, once you're 15 minutes into cardio, a staff member will come by and spray everything around you with a cleaner that takes your breath (and stride) away. There are no free lockers. You must buy one for an extra $5/month, but when I inquired, there were none available. So, you have to trust that the open cubbies near the locker rooms will keep your stuff safe. In July, we were charged twice each for our membership, plus a yearly maintenance fee each. This really hurt our budget as we did not receive a refund for the double charge. However, the next month was free. While that did make up for the billing mistake, we were not informed when the maintenance fee would happen, and obviously had to recover from a huge chunk of change coming out. You don't get to take home a copy of the agreement. They have one there you can peruse, but bring your own scanner, I guess. All these things aside, there are free towels to use, a big place to yourself most of the time, and 24-hour access. The cardio theater is great. But I just wasn't willing to pay for the other things.
