I like Hokkaido. It's the only Asian Buffet I've been to in Pittsburgh and I'm not sure if I'd be brave enough to go anywhere else in Pittsburgh. Because Hokkaido is supposedly the "best" one in Pittsburgh. Based on that statement alone, you can understand my sense of caution. I've been to plenty of asian buffets around the world. Hokkaido isn't bad, I've just had better. There's a good variety of chinese dishes, mongolian grill, sushi, dim sum, fruits, desserts and crab legs.
My only problem is the cleanliness. You're probably asking, what do you expect from a buffet? Hand sanitizer pumps around the area, maybe? Clean dishes? Clean eating utensils? Clean serving spoons/tongs?
I also witnessed a kid hanging over the freezer to get ice cream. Then he stuck his fingers in the scooper to scrape it out. Then dropped it back in the water. One employee saw but didn't care. I don't know where this kids fingers have been? Not only that but the dishes were slightly greasy and some of my eating utensils had sweet and sour sauce residue on it.
Bathroom was a bit of a mess. Old rags under the soap dispenser and paper towels all over the floor. Maybe it was a bad day?
At least the restaurant didn't smell. So that's a plus!
Food was good
Cleanliness could be far better
Service was as good as it can be
Price is a little expensive
