  • I've taken megabus to New York, Buffalo Airport and Niagara Falls from Toronto and while their rates are incredible (assuming you find them) the longer rides (to New York) can be an arduous one. You really should know what sort of experience you're in for and be prepared for an hour or 2 delay thanks to border traffic (once I was there for nearly an hour thanks to some passengers having trouble with immigration). The travel experience I would say is a 2 star experience, but thanks to weak but more-reliable-than-not free wifi and cheap tickets I give them 3.5 stars. A problem which megabus can't really help is that most people that take this bus overnight are not in good moods (unless you happen to catch a lucky break and sit next to people that are respectful of your space and silence), and as a result the overall atmosphere is pretty bleak. The seats are OK, you have a decent amount of leg room, all seats have power points but then again, they were not very reliable and leg room is nothing to boast about too much but it's more or less the standard. The ride to Buffalo and Buffalo Airport is pretty reliable in terms of timing getting there, but coming back to Toronto I had to deal with it being delayed by around 45 minutes once (but only 10minutes the other time). The drivers could definitely be friendlier, but I understand their frustration if they have to keep dealing with customers that are clueless when it comes to crossing the border, so do yourself, the driver and the fellow passengers all a favour and know in advance what you need and what's not allowed to cross the border. I would always look for megabus as my first choice if I have to take a bus ride, but for a trip to NYC, I would seriously consider flying despite the almost 10 fold increase in price (and the fact that you save yourself 10 or 11 hours by flying).
