| - My wife and I stayed here the nights of April 6-9. Before we booked a room here we did a fair amount of internet research and were aware that generally this hotel receives low ratings; however, it was Adrianna G's review from 2/16/15 that swung us to go ahead and book here. Her review in part says "My husband is a cameraman for spring training baseball, so he stays in Phoenix from Feb 20th- April 1st. He has stayed at this hotel for the past 3 years because of the cost. It is very affordable and every year the hotel gets better!" We figured if the guy comes back three years in a row they must be doing something right.
Some themes from others reviews that we found especially valid include:
Renovation - Yes, they have (or are) renovated. The problem with the renovation to date is that is hasn't been a very good job. It appears the carpet has been replaced and the decor in the rooms has been updated. There are newish appliances in the rooms, but there has not been too much done beyond the surface. The metal doors to the rooms have been repainted but it's not a very good job. The walls have patches a repairs that are clearly visible through the paint. Routing for electrical cords is exposed and unattractive. Although we were initially worried about the carpet and did not want to take our socks off, after walking around the room for 4 nights the socks were still very clean.
Hot water - There was hot water, but it was inconsistent. While taking a shower the water would get hot, then warm, then cool, then hot - but it never ran out. Hot water flow seemed to be the issue.
Noise - Several things here. First, the hotel overall was ok as far as the noise level goes. Many times the noise problem is one of the other guests, not the hotel. We had this very issue on our final night. The family from hell checked into the room next to us and the kids proceeded to open and close every door several times while mom and dad shouted at each other. This is out of the control of the hotel. A call to the front desk and they moved us without question. Something the hotel can control is the music they play outside. This is mostly in the pool area and they do turn it off about 10PM each night. But before 10PM even on out third floor room we had no trouble hearing it in the room.
Staff - These guys were friendly all the way around. Front desk was friendly when we checked in and offered directions to a store. The front desk turned the pool music down one night without an argument. The breakfast staff were friendly. When we had the incident with the noisy room next to us we were moved without hesitation and were comped a night without us bringing it up. The maid service was always great.
LGBT - No judgement here either way. The hotel seems to cater to the LGBT crowd some based on their facebook posts and some of the material at the hotel. If you are part of that crowd you may want to patronize this place. If you object you might consider a different place.
I think one facebook reviewer summed it up the best - "I have stayed in better hotels and I have stayed in worse. This hotel is not so bad as to make me want to move." But that said, I will be staying someplace else next time.
