Just bought a new Subaru Outback 3.6R a few days ago and couldn't be happier. We went there debating on Forester and Outback (and even had some other SUV types in mind, e.g., Toyota Highlander). Arlene (our dealer) was patient while we went through/explored both of the vehicle types. I appreciated that he allowed my SO and I to talk things over in private and was available when we needed him. He was very knowledgable about both of the vehicles when we did have questions. We ended up going with the Outback because the amenities/safety features alone were worth the price.
Another thing I appreciated was that he was understanding of our one year old running around. He and the other staff were very accepting.
As far as purchasing, I used a purchasing program to streamline the process so there were no negotiations on basic cost. The dealership did make offers for add-ons and up-sales (what dealer doesn't?) but Arlene accepted our answers with no additional pressure. The only point that was somewhat annoying was the loan negotiations. We used USAA and were firm on our decisions and the dealership (it did not seem like it was coming from Arlene - it seemed more from the finance department and management) kept offering their finance option. But really that is my one and only complaint.
If you're looking for a Subaru, I would definitely recommend talking to Arlene.
